Weekend Strikers

Our second major of the year is in the books and what a turnout! We had a Striker record 56 players show up last Saturday afternoon to play in the Coronado PGA Major Championship tournament. It was also great to see several players we haven't seen for a few tournaments. Typical to what I have seen from this club, I commend the players for sticking it out and continuing play after a very rare SOCAL Thunder/Lightning delay. Despite our "Striker" name, I'm happy to report lightning did not strike any members of our club. As expected, Coronado Golf Course was in great shape all around. In the end, first year on tour, Dale Havens emerged victorious and crowned as our PGA Champion winner. Dale credits several things that day that helped his game: his sand game was on point and got out with clean looks and his putter was on fire hitting several 6 to 10 foot putts. He also felt patience and focus (translated to not being hung over) really kept him sharp and his 5 day golf outing in Palm Springs the week prior really helped him prep for the tournament. It was a narrow margin as he edged out 2nd place finisher, lefty Paul Martinez by .1 points and our Masters Champion Jamie MacIsaac by .3 points!! Congrats Champ. Dale pocketed $250 while 2nd and 3rd took home $150 and $100 respectively. Well done guys. Finally, congratulations to our pinseekers each taking home $50 each: Jamie (2'1" was pinseeker of the day), Rob Roberts (11'11''), guest Junior Mallari (3'7"), and Rex Jr (6'2.5").

Ok, we are in the summer months and drop to one tournament per month due to summer travel/vacations. Our next tournament will be at the centrally located Riverwalk Golf Course in Mission Valley on on 28 June. I hope to see many of you there to play summer golf in San Diego...you can't beat it.
